Diamonds are often called "forever stones."

They're a symbol of strength, luxury and unbreakablelove. We see them dazzling for engagement rings, passed down through generations, and even used in high end tools because of their legendary hardness.

Most people assume diamonds are indestructible. After all, they'e the hardest natural material on Earth. But hardness isn't the same as toughness - and thats where things get interesting.

Hardness means resistance to stcratching, while toughness refers to how well a material can resist breaking or chipping. A diamons scores a perfect 10 on the Mohs scale for hardness, but its not invincible when it comes to impact.
